Easy Filipino Hotcake Recipe

Almost every Filipino cannot forget what a Hotcake looks and taste like. Yellowish, spongy, and a little bit bland but becomes sweet when slathered with butter and sprinkled with sugar. Filipino Hot Cake is popular street food in the Philippines. You can see this food while walking on the sidewalk because it was easy to prepare. The below ingredients and procedures will help you make this delicious food.


  • 3/4 cup of sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp of baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp of salt
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup of evaporated milk
  • 3 tbsp of vegetable oil
  • 1/3 cup of butter for slathering
  • 1/8 tsp yellow food color
  • extra 1/4 cup of sugar for coating or sprinkling


  1. Combine all dried ingredients such as sifted all purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a bowl using a whisk.
  2. On a separate small bowl, combine wet ingredients such as egg, evaporated milk, food color, and vegetable oil. Whisk it until fully combine.
  3. Add or pour the wet ingredients to the dried ingredients and mix until it makes into a smooth and no clumps batter.
  4. Melt or slather a small amount of butter into the pan in a medium fire. With the measuring cup, scoop the batter and pour it into the pan spreading it flat.
  5. Wait until small bubbles starting to show and flip the hot cake into another side until it’s cook.
  6. Remove the hotcake from the pan and immediately brush it with butter and sprinkle it with sugar.
  7. Enjoy your Filipino Hotcake
